We all know that staying at Condado de Alhama is best when you have access to your own transport, the onsite facilities will happily see you through a week or three but ultimately to get the most out of the area you will need to have access to a car.
While holiday makers can opt to hire a car from one of the many car hire companies that operate at San Javier, Alicante or the new Region de Murcia airport, there are not as many options closer to home. In any case, car hire can be expensive and fraught with difficulty. Often you will be asked for additional payments before being handed the keys to a hire car, or asked for hefty deposits on your debit or credit card and of course you run the risk of a hire company claiming a car was damaged during your rental.
There are lots of owners on the resort that have cars and either leave them parked while they are not here or use on of the airport parking companies to store their vehicle when not in use. So what if there was a way for car owners to offer their car to neighbours or short stay visitors to the resort cutting out the car hire companies and their shenanigans while at the same time earning some money.
Well, you may be please to learn that such a solution does exist and it’s called SocialCar, which is a web based peer to peer car hire scheme.
The scheme isn’t for everyone, you might baulk at the idea of someone else using your pride and joy but for others who have cars they describe as ‘a nice little run around’ a peer to peer rental scheme might be a great way to increase car hire availability to anyone interested in staying at Condado de Alhama.
Car Hire at Condado de Alhama
Before anyone goes off to check whether it is legal to rent their car to others, rest assured that it’s perfectly legal! Social car advises the following on it’s website; The rights and obligations involved in renting out a private vehicle with no driver (this activity does not require a specific license according to Article 133.1 of Law 16/87 on the Management of Land Transport).
So let’s talk about what you can expect to earn from renting out your car. Firstly, you set your own daily rental rates so you are in full control of how much you want a rental to pay. Once you have set you rate you can expect to receive 80% of the rental rate you have set! Additionally, you can increase revenue by offering delivery to and from the airport, offering home delivery and by setting a daily mileage limit and charging extra for excess fuel mileage. You get paid weekly and will receive whatever is in your SocialCar account from the previous week!
Now let’s look at what happens if your car gets damaged or there is a breakdown. It should be reassuring to know that during each rental your car will be protected by full insurance provided by AXA with international coverage for hire between private persons plus your vehicle will be covered with 24/7 roadside assistance provided by RACC.

Before you start to wonder how you would be able to rent your car while not being in the country we have a possible solution.
We’ve been in touch with one of the current airport parking companies, Plane Parking, who have confirmed that as long as you have a contract with them and make a reservation with them providing the drivers name then there will be no problem renting out your car! Plane Parking contracts start at 300 euros per year for a single airport and 400 euros per year for Alicante and Murcia – they have also confirmed they will be moving operations to the new Region de Murcia airport from January 15th.
Based on that information we have no reason to believe other contract airport parking wouldn’t offer the same to customers.
We strongly advise that you do your own due diligence before offering your car for rent but we think it might be a good idea!
