Recently, a blog post from February 2016 has come into the spotlight and is causing a stir among residents and owners at Condado de Alhama.
The article was written by Kristin Henning for travel website TravelPast50.com. It was originally posted in February 2016 and gives Kristin’s view on our resort, where she described the resort as ‘downright creepy’.
In 2012 Kristin and her partner were in the area doing some house sitting and upon seeing Condado de Alhama from the motorway they decided to take a closer look.
It’s clear from her article that she did not warm to the place, which was also described as a ‘ghost town’.
In fairness, at the time of her visit in 2012 the resort was much quieter that it is now. I bought my apartment in 2012 and at that time we didn’t have many of the great businesses that we can enjoy today.
Despite how things were at the time it’s a shame to see that this particular writer focused on just one angle of the place.
Readers of her article will notice that all accompanying photos conveniently show areas that are unused. There are several lingering shots over patches of waste ground, a glimpse of an empty outer ring road and Al Kasar in February is never going to portray Condado in a vibrant light.
What she doesn’t show is the beautiful gardens and landscaping that we all enjoy every time we visit our piece of Spanish paradise.
It appears that in 2015 Kristin has taken renewed interest in Condado de Alhama as she references the bank take over of several resort assets and the golf course. However, I sense she has not made a return visit as she merely references her information to fit her unflattering review of our resort.
Had Kristin returned she couldn’t have failed to notice that Al Kasar now benefits from more businesses than ever.
A good sign of life if ever there was one!
Big G’s American Diner, Eden Hair and Beauty, Funky Monkey, El Rincon Bakery, Sparkle Property Services, La Cata bar, Condado Maintenance and hire business and the Christian Open Door Center were not present in 2012.
Since then, The Condado Club has excelled into a busy and vibrant entertainment venue and the new Diversity Golf Club is just beginning to take off.
Not to mention the new (and some would say much improved) refit of the Clover Bar, or the Skye bar that opened in place of the ice cream parlour, or indeed the change of Bokao to the St Andrews Bar & Grill.
All of these businesses are growing and evolving. They form the heart of our great community and are in addition to the many new social groups that have sprung up in the last few years. This includes the ladies coffee morning, the golf society, the weekly parent and toddler group and Zumba classes, to name a few!
Condado de Alhama might only have a small number of full time residents and be quiet at some times of the year but it is a vibrant community.
We have quiet times for those who enjoy peace and tranquility and we have an increasingly busier summer season for those who like the atmosphere and buzz of happy holiday makers.
If Kristin cares to visit in July or August she will find Al Kasar bustling with many happy visitors who have spent their days around one of the 22 pools she mentions (it’s actually 25) or relaxing on their private roof terrace.
She might even enjoy our weekly summer market that we enjoy every year right on our doorstep.
I felt Kristin’s post needed a response from someone who owns a property on Condado de Alhama and has seen the resort grow and evolve in the last four or five years into a fantastic golf urbanisation.
I hope all those people who read her article also discover this response and get a much better understanding of what our community is like as Kristin’s view really does not do Condado any justice at all.
